A few years ago, when I started this business, I noticed something unfair.
Academics who speak English as a second or third language often have to hire someone to proofread their manuscripts for them.
People who speak and write English fluently do not have to spend this money.
What’s worse is that people who do not speak English fluently often come from developing countries, where these editing services are cost prohibitive. Clearly, this biases published research towards wealthy, English-speaking researchers.
This is an inequity in research that we desperately need to fix.
I would love to see this service freely offered by journals in the future. But for now, I offer affordable and even reduced rates for scientists who are based in developing countries.
